Actually, this is the second goa module I've done, right after finishing "Black Absorber" I started with this one. However, I decided to release my 3rd goa mod, "Divine Darkness" (the guest release for PHD), first. This piece is a bit more melodious and, uhm, lets say "softer" than the other goa mods I've done (just wait for the coming stuff that is really worth calling it "psychedelic" and you know what I mean when typing this now! hehe). T e c h n i c a l l y s p o k e n Some insight into my technique - when listening to any of my stakkato riffs, you will notice those stakkatos are very load and sharp. In the old time of mod-creation, all composers used the multiple "A0F" commands (as introduced by Chris Korte and Romeo Knight) to create stakkatos, while setting the instrument byte on every line again to re-initialize the volume to its initial state ($40 in the very old trackers & the volume set in the sample info block in the newer ones). However, the "A" command (which used to be "D" in the older trackers btw., I remember how I had to convert loadsa my mods back in the days when Amiga Freelancers started to use "D" to perform pattern break/jump, one helluva job! - just some history lesson from an oldschool musician, hehe!) does volume SLIDE, the volume will be reduced EACH tick (# of interrupts per line AKA the actual speed set with the "F" command) of the line of a track, that means, the volume gets significantly lower during the playing of one single line. Result: the staccato is very short and soft. My method to create a staccato (and as far as I know, I was the first using this method, really!) is to use the "ECx" command to set the volume to ZERO after the specified number of ticks. Now that means that the sample will be played at its preset volume during the whole line until the volume is dropped to zero IMMEDIATELY. The staccato can be varied in length, giving different values, while it sounds very loud and sharp. The two methods compared to each other: old way My way C-3 1A0F C-3 1EC4 --- 1A0F --- 1EC3 --- 1A0F --- 1EC3 --- 1A0F --- 1EC4 --- 1A0F --- 1EC3 --- 1A0F --- 1EC3 --- 1A0F --- 1EC4 --- 1A0F --- 1EC3 Just check it out, you will hear the difference immediately, just take care that the value passed to the "EC" command is always smaller than the speed you are using - for F06, the maximum value 5, F03 is 2, you get the idea... Well, thats it. If YOU have some tips & tricks you use while trackering, why not pass them over to me, I'll try to compile those into some kinda guide or so, so just start typing! :) And don't forget: just say no to drum'n bass!
